My painting instruction cards are a new and engaging way to learn watercolour painting. I have worked with newcomers to painting for many years – students and readers of my painting books. This has taught me that people learn by building their skills gradually, step by step.

This explanatory leaflet is enclosed with each set of cards. You can download and read the leaflet here (Adobe PDF format, 320kb).

Through avoiding over-ambitious subjects, and by taking you through a carefully planned programme of simple and specific instructions, my cards are designed to help you to create satisfying paintings almost instantly.

Each set consists of 10 double-sided laminated instruction cards that guides you towards producing finished watercolour paintings. You do not need to be an expert at drawing because every set contains a simple drawing guide for each of the step-by-step paintings included in the pack. See the paintings you can achieve below. Each set also contains clearly illustrated instructions for all the basic techniques that you will need to complete the paintings.

The cards come in a handy A5 size (210cm x 148cm) in a tough wallet of clear plastic, ideal for slipping into a pocket or bag, for travelling, or just for working at home. The painting cards are ideal for newcomers to watercolour, and for those wanting to improve their technique. They are also the perfect present for anyone interested in watercolour but who does not know where to begin.

Materials are kept to a minimum. For example, you need only six colours and three brushes. If you have art materials at home, I suggest that you first try using the cards with those, matching as closely as you can the colours and brush sizes recommended. However, if you want to buy the precise colours and materials used in the cards, these can be ordered from this site at the standard retail prices. Alternatively, they can be bought at any good art shop or online store (see a list of online stores on the right).
